Former Kiambaa MP Stanley Githunguri dies

Veteran politician and business mogul Stanley Githunguri, a former Member of Parliament for Kiambaa is dead.

The MP who served in the August House between the year 2007 and 2013 upon election on a Kanu ticket before vying for the senatorial seat and losing to the current governor Kimani Wamatangi has passed on at the age of 77.

Githunguri whose business empire runs to billions of shillings retreated to private life after his defeat in politics in 2013.

His properties include Lilian Towers, which houses the Nairobi Safari Club, Ridgeways Mall on Kiambu road among others in the County.

According to his family, the businessman died yesterday while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

The current Kiambaa MP John Njuguna Kawanjiku mourned Githunguri as a dedicated public servant.

“I interacted with Githunguri as a young man, he was a dedicated leader who was committed to the welfare of his people,” Kawanjiku said.

According to Wikipedia, Githunguri was born on 17 February 1945 and died yesterday 30 November 2022.

He attended Gacharage primary school from 1954 to 1957 before going to Karura Intermediate School and has a degree in Political Science and Economics from Alaska Methodist University in USA.
