Four people died in a tragic road accident that occurred Wednesday morning at Kithini market along the Machakos- Nairobi road.
The deceased lost their lives at around 9.30 am while heading to Machakos when the Nissan Matatu they were travelling in lost control and rolled.
Confirming the incident, Machakos Sub-County Police Commander Mose Nthiwa said the deceased included a female Machakos county government employee who died on the spot.
“A male passenger and a teenager boy succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the Machakos Level 5 hospital,” said Nthiwa.
The Police Commander further revealed that another female County government employee sustained serious head injuries and was transferred to the Kenyatta National hospital for specialized treatment.
The police boss said that the vehicle was overloaded as it had seventeen passengers on board. He said that some of the injured were treated at the same hospital and discharged in stable condition.
He urged motorists especially Public Service Vehicles drivers to be more cautious while driving to minimize road carnage.
A doctor at the Level 5 hospital confirmed that the facility had admitted five victims with serious injuries while others were treated and allowed to go home.
The wreckage of the fateful matatu was towed to the Machakos traffic police yard as investigations to establish the actual cause of the accident began.
