Government beefs Security  in Baragoi

Samburu County Commissioner (CC) Henry Wafula has assured Baragoi residents of their security during the coming general elections.

This is after tension in the area remained high following the killing of a teacher attached at Baragoi boys high school on Monday afternoon.

Speaking to the press outside his office in Maralal town, Wafula said that following the incident security has been beefed up in the volatile town to ensure the safety of residents.

“Business men closing their shops for fear of attacks should stop doing that since we have already provided enough security,” he affirmed.

The CC said that they have established a multi-agency command centre to handle all security related issues before, during and after the elections.

He added that a security team led by Samburu north Deputy County Commissioner Jackson Oloo is holding talks with young men from the Turkana community to avoid retaliatory attacks.

At the same time, Wafula confirmed that all 135 boarding students from Baragoi high school were sent home following the killing of their teacher adding that the school will reopen by the end of this week.

“After the shooting which took place 200 meters from the schools gate we had to send the boys home to avoid collateral damage,” he said.
