Government issues title deeds to 4,502 residents in Kitui East

Some 4,502 residents of Kenze Location in Kitui East Sub-county have a reason to smile after receiving their land title deeds.

Speaking at Kanguu Market after issuing the residents the title deeds, Kitui Governor, Charity Ngilu, stated that the government was committed to ensure every land owner get the document.

Ngilu also said in issuing the title deeds, the government also aimed at ending numerous land disputes that he noted, had impended on development in the region.

“The issuance of these title deeds also aim at according residents, the chance to build permanent homes and enabling them to practice crop farming and bee keeping freely, with an assurance they are doing so on land that is free from ownership disputes,” she stressed.

She added that the rich have been using their financial muscles, to deprive the needy of their ancestral land, adding the titling marks the end of land injustices in Kenze.

Ngilu commended President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Administration for their invaluable cooperation and support in processing of the title deeds.

Last year President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the Ardhisasa platform, to prevent fraud in the land acquisition and transfer processes.

The Ardhisasa platform provides paperless land transactions, geared towards curbing the high number of fraudulent cases and painful slow processes on land sale, transfers and leases that had characterized the physical transactions.

“I want to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for ensuring having title deed in these areas become a reality,” said Ngilu.

Last month Ngilu issued 1,866 title deeds to squatters in Nzalae Ranch in Mwingi West, Kitui County.
