The Ministry of Health has stepped up Covid-19 vaccination campaigns with the roll out of a ten-day rapid result initiative countrywide.
Speaking during a sensitization meeting for Teso North health workers, chiefs and ward administrators at Amagoro, the Sub County Public Health Officer Judith Heckanusur said the exercise which kicks of today July 22nd will run till July 31st.
She said the government is now targeting individuals aged 12 years and above unlike before when the target recipients of the jab were those aged 18 years and above.
“Teso North has been given a ten-day target of over 19,000 individuals. From the target about 10,000 teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17 will be receiving the first dose while 9,000 will be receiving both the primary series (first and second doses) and the booster,”Heckanusur informed the meeting.
She said the health officers carrying out the exercise will be moving in all primary schools in the sub county in order to reach the primary target population.
Angurai Assistant County Commissioner Wilson Chacha called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to ensure the set target is achieved.
“All stakeholders have a role to play in ensuring that the target population-especially school going children aged 12 and above are vaccinated,” Chacha said.
