Government to issue Title Deeds for Adjudicated Area of Mwea Sub-County

There is a sigh of relief for residents of Makima, Karaba and Riakanau Mwea Sub-County Embu after the Government processed title deeds for adjudicated areas which were demarcated in 1978.

Makima Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Philip Nzangi who broke the news to the residents of embattled parcels of land in Mbeere South constituency during a burial ceremony in Makima, said that the Government has already processed a huge chunk of the title deeds.

The MCA said the Government has expedited the processing of 15,000 title deeds for Makima, Karaba and Riakanau and that they will be issued to the locals. He however disclosed that there were some title deeds which still had some challenges but noted that where there is need for change they will be corrected accordingly.

The MCA observed that locals living in the adjudicated areas famously known in the area as ‘Matangi’ have waited for their title deeds since 1978 when the land was demarcated saying the issuance will now give them an opportunity to live in and own the land legally.

Nzangi stated he will be working closely with Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire because she has shown good political will to see that the disagreements surrounding demarcation and issuance of title deeds to the locals living in Mwea settlement scheme.

“Now that the governor is ready to work with the people living in Mwea settlement scheme to see that issues surrounding the demarcation and issuance of the title deeds is fully settled, I know that soon all these issues will be a thing of the past and every person will get his or her title deed,” said the MCA.

Residents have urged the government to ensure the issuance is done in an open manner so that the deserving beneficiaries get their title deeds.

Thomas Nthiwa, a resident of Makima lauded the government for the initiative, whereas Agnes Kanini said that despite having lived in Mwanjo for more than 20 years, they have been living in uncertainty, fearing that they could be evicted from the land anytime.
