Inua jamii beneficiaries want government to fast track payments

Beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii programme in Mwala sub county have appealed to the State Department for Social Protection to fast track the payments for the July, August and September cycles due to the prevailing drought situation in the area.

Chairperson Beneficiaries Welfare Committee (BCW) Pius Kyululi said majority of the beneficiaries are hunger stricken and the monthly stipend of Sh2, 000 if paid, will alleviate the situation.

“The situation is dire and many of us are not able to buy food. The money would also help prepare our farms and buy farm inputs ahead of the October -December short rains,” he told KNA on Thursday.

The last payments were done in July and close to 5,886 Inua Jamii beneficiaries in the sub county were paid Sh8,000 for the March-April and May-June cyles totaling to Sh47 milion.

According to the Sub county Gender and Social Development Officer Francis Musyoki the beneficiaries included 5,100 older persons, 655 orphaned and vulnerable children and 131 people with disability.

Musyoki however appealed for patience from the beneficiaries.
