A gubernatorial hopeful in Nyamira County could be at the brink of missing out on the 9th August General Election ballot after failing to meet IEBC requirement for clearance.
John Nyariki Ondieki was not cleared as an independent candidate to run for the gubernatorial seat for Nyamira County after it was discovered that out of the required 500 signatures, he only had 360.
Nyariki, a retired teacher, emerged from the IEBC offices a disappointed man after spending yesterday’s entire afternoon with the electoral agency officials.
“I presented my signatures but unfortunately over 100 of them were disqualified due to mismatch issues but I’m hopeful to work out on the remaining signatures and re-submit my papers before the vetting is complete to try my luck again,” Nyariki explained.
The incumbent governor Amos Nyaribo did not present his nomination papers yesterday as scheduled but said he would do so before the exercise is concluded.
Nyamira County IEBC manager Anthony Njoroge confirmed that so far, the exercise has been smooth and they have not experienced any unmanageable challenges since the exercise began.
Among those who have been cleared to contest for the gubernatorial seat are; ODM’s Timothy Bosire, Dr. Gideon Moseti-PPOK, Joseph Kiangoi-ANC, Borabu MP Ben Momanyi-Wiper, Dr. Henry Ongeri-DC and Walter Nyambati of UDA.
Reuben Marwanga-KANU, Daniel Osiemo-PPK, Annald Nyansika-Safina face the electoral body this Monday afternoon as the exercise closes this week.
