Homa Bay Tae Kwon Do Team Heads to Inter-County Championships

More than 20 Tae Kwon Do players in Homa Bay have appealed to the County Government to support them in their preparation to attend Inter-County Championships games in Kwale.

This comes after the team recently attended Inter-County Championship games in Ofafa Memorial Hall Kisumu, where 9 members were selected to represent the county in Kwale games scheduled for December.

Speaking to KNA, the Chairman of Homa Bay Tae Kwon Do Association, Japheth Odiwuor Ngolo, requested the Governor, Gladys Wanga to give the players an appointment to visit her office where they will present to her trophies and the medals that they have won in the previous games.

“We have won trophies and medals in different categories of games and we request the Governor to allow us to present them to her in her office,” said Odiwuor.

Odiwuor urged the new leaders especially the Governor to fulfill their pledges for the team during their campaign period.

He said that the Kwale games will lead to the selection of those who will form the National Team to represent the county in Rwanda next year in a competition dubbed Genocide Memorial.

“Our team has managed to produce players who have played outside the county, hence lifting Homa Bay County’s flag high,” he said.

The chairman stated that Tae Kwon Do is a form of martial arts which embraces discipline and inclusivity with different categories for children, adults and even People with Disability (PWDs).

He said he was optimistic that their members will still qualify to be among the players who will represent Kenya in Germany during the next year’s games.

He requested the county government to be supporting them in terms of transport, accommodation and meals during the competitions.

“I would like to urge our county government to assign some officials to accompany us to the competitions to boost our morale,” said Odiwuor.

Erick Odhiambo Ooko, a member of the association, asked the government to build for them enough halls to avoid high charges that they meet when hiring such for their training.
