Investigations carried out into an assault on school Principal

Authorities in Homa Bay County have stepped up investigations into an incident in which students assaulted their Principal at God Bura secondary school.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Samson Kine said the case was being handled by the Ministry of Education and security personnel.

This follows an incident in which the students assaulted their Principal after they accused him of mismanaging the institution.

The Principal, Collins Omondi was attacked by the students after they were allegedly served sugarless porridge.

A police report indicated that learners attacked the teacher earlier this week causing him serious injuries.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the students frog matched Mr Omondi to the police station but when he resisted, they began beating him up before police intervened and rescued him.

Kine said investigations were at an advanced stage.

“Some parents also stepped in to rescue him when he was being attacked by students,” he said.

The agitated students accused Mr Omondi of bad leadership.

Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association Chairman in Suba Paul Mbara condemned the attack.

He said the teacher sustained injuries on his chest.

Mr Omondi was first rushed to Magunga Level Four hospital for medical examination before he was referred to another facility for X-Ray.

“Attacking teachers is not a solution to problems facing schools. There should be alternative dispute resolution mechanisms,” Mr Mbara said.

He expressed concern that such unrest may lead to dismal performance in schools.
