Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has claimed that Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga enjoys more support in Kakamega County after the defection of several MPs from rival parties to ODM.
Oparanya said the defections of MPs Titus Khamala (Lurambi), Christopher Aseka (Khwisero), Peter Nabulindo (Matungu) and Tindi Mwale (Butere) from ANC and Majority Whip Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo) and Benard Shinali (Ikolomani) from Jubilee have solidified Odinga’s support in the region.
“Nine of 12 MPs in the County have joined Azimio and are supporting Odinga. This will make the former Prime Minister garner more votes from what he amassed during the last General Elections,” said Oparanya.
The Governor made the remarks at Harambee Market in Butere Sub County when he led the MPs and other candidates in campaigns for Odinga yesterday.
MPs Wangwe, Aseka, Ayub Savula, Shinali, Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda, Gubernatorial candidate Fernandez Barasa and senatorial candidate Brian Lishenga accompanied the Governor.
Oparanya noted that Odinga is still in control of the Western region voting bloc adding that he will win the majority elective seats and votes in the August polls.
The governor said he is leading a vigorous campaign to lock out Kenya Kwanza from the region arguing that the leaders aligned to the outfit have nothing to offer to the populace.
