Kakamega governor urged to unite leaders from all political divides

Kakamega County Commissioner John Ondego has urged the second governor of Kakamega, Fernandez Barasa, to unite all leaders from different political parties.

Ondego said it is only by unity that the leaders will work towards developing the county to the benefit of residents.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony of Barasa as the second Governor, Ondego said residents voted expecting development initiatives.

The CC noted that the outgoing Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has been praised for laying a strong foundation on development noting that the bar has been set high which the incoming governor must maintain.

“I understand that the incoming governor is equal to the task,” he observed.

He urged residents to rally behind all other elected and nominated leaders in the county to support the governor in order to deliver on his promises.

This comes as the Deputy Governor Ayub Savula said he will put politics aside to start working for the people of Kakamega who entrusted him with leadership.

Speaking after taking an oath of office, Savula congratulated residents for exercising patience during the postponement of the Gubernatorial election twice.

“I have a contract with the people of Kakamega for five good years, to offer services to them,” he noted.

Savula said he will work with the governor in consultation with the outgoing governor Wycliffe Oparanya and with the National Government to offer development.

“We will work with President William Ruto who was elected and cleared by the supreme court,” he noted.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwalwe promised to support governor Barasa to perform his duties.

“I want to commit myself that Kakamega must succeed,” he noted.

Khalwale advised Governor Barasa to work closely with the National Government to revive Mumias Sugar Company.

At the same time, Khalwale said he will champion for financial independence of county assemblies to enable them to have power to oversee the county executive.
