Kakamega residents urged to cooperate with security agencies to curb crime

Acting Kakamega County Commissioner (Ag CC), Ngalia Ndaya, has urged residents to work together with security agencies and Government Administrators, to enhance security across the County.
He made the appeal during the County’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at Lumakanda grounds in Lugari Sub-county, where Governor Fernandes Barasa, legislators Nabii Nabwera (Lugari), and Innocent Mugabe (Likuyani), graced the occasion.
Ndaya said security is a collective responsibility that requires synergy between the security agencies and members of the public, who have a critical role to play.
“I am appealing to members of the public to collaborate with security officers and voluntarily share information that will aid in tackling crime and enhancing security,”he said
“Besides the cooperation, members of the public must also be responsible and law-abiding. Recently, we have witnessed incidences of members of the public taking the law into their own hands. Let us avoid this.

Ag CC advised Wananchi to allow due process to take its course when a suspect has been arrested.

“Let us respect the law. Let us take them to the police, so that they can be dealt with legally,” stressed.
Ndaya’s appeal to members of the public was in reaction to legislator (MP), Nabwera’s earlier sentiments, alleging that since December 2022 to date, four individuals have been brutally murdered in Lugari Sub-county and the deaths are yet to be resolved.
He regretted the recent incident involving Brian Mulama, –a power saw operator from Mugunga Sub-location who was lured on 7th October, brutally murdered, and his body dumped and recovered after a week in a stream in the Kilimani area in Turbo.
“We condemn the murder. However, I am pleased to state here that so far two main suspects are in police custody and once investigations are complete they will be taken to court and charged,”Ndaya stated.
According to MP Nabwera, four cruel murders have occurred in different places within the Constituency since December last year but nobody has been brought to book.
“My constituents are now living in fear. On 23rd December 2022 Robai Khayala-83 from the Mautuma area, was raped and killed and no one has since been apprehended. On 30th December 2022, another lady Jane Mbone from the Manyonyi area suffered the same fate with no arrests being made,” he lamented.
In July this year, Anelka Ashira from Lumakanda was murdered, and his body was dumped at a stage in the Muge area, since then no one has been arrested. The recent incident happened Two weeks ago where Brian Mulama from the Mugunga area was lured and brutally murdered,” MP outlined.
Nabii appealed to the County Commission to urgently act, saying that for any region to realize development, peace and security are paramount.
Nabii told the Acting County Commission that there has been an upsurge in the last six months of illicit liquor, wondering what has happened to the Sub-county security team.
However, Ndaya asked the Sub-county multiagency team, to take immediate action to combat illicit liquor and narcotics.
