Phase Three of Kazi Mtaani geared towards alleviating poverty in vulnerable households in Nyamira County has kicked.
Nyamira County Director for Housing, Boaz Mireri, while launching the exercise, said that the County is targeting to engage 4,000 youths in this Phase of the programme so that as many vulnerable youths as possible, may benefit by getting financial boost to meet their basic needs.
“Most of the youths recruited for this assignment previously were from very vulnerable backgrounds and were struggling economically to make ends meet. The same criteria will be used to recruit new ones, so that they are equally able to put food on the table,” the Director said.
“Youths must adhere to strict discipline, while undertaking their assignments at various work points because the County Secretariat members In-Charge of kazi Mtaani will take necessary disciplinary action to any youth who will be found culpable of flouting working regulations,” Mr. Mireri warned.
Nyamira Sub-county Assistant County Commissioner, Millicent Gatimu, emphasized on the importance of using their earnings constructively to initiate start-up entrepreneurial projects initiatives which will sustain them economically once Kazi mtaani ends.
“Be our peace ambassadors and don’t accept to be used by politicians to heckle their opponents or destroy their campaigning posters, because such acts are criminal and punishable before courts of law, so anyone who will be caught with such offences will not be spared,” she advised.
John Maisiba, a youth from Nyamira South Sub-county who worked during Phase Two of Kazi mtaani said he was more than grateful for the return of this programme because since Phase Two of the programme ended, he has not managed to secure any job anywhere. Though he started a small business within Nyamira town selling malimali wares, his stock has been reducing by the day because his myriad family economic needs are overwhelming.
“This job has come at the right time for me because family economic demands are already overwhelming and nothing is adding up in these tough economic times and this job will be a big boost in improving my life and that of my dependents,” explained John.
Mr. Mireri clarified that the Phase Three of Kazi Mtaani is a nationwide activity which will run till September this year and appealed to youths who will work to ensure they do their best in delivering quality work to make Nyamira county stand out.
