As Kenya joins the African continent in celebrating the Africa Public Service Day (APSD), Kenya prides in marking 10 years of transformation of public service delivery that has created an efficient and effective public sector.
The celebrations that has attracted over 100 Ministries, Departments and Agencies to showcase their innovations at the national event at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre grounds in Nairobi will also see public servants receive awards and certificates for excellent innovations.
Government Spokesperson Col (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna said the 3-day event themed ‘Celebrating Public Service Transformation: Ten Years Journey and Beyond’ blends well with the Kenya government’s efforts to improve on the administrative systems for economic growth and better service delivery to citizenry as envisioned in the Big 4 Agenda and Vision 2030.
He said the celebration is aimed at according the Public Service organisations an opportunity to reflect on the successes and map out appropriate measures to mitigate the challenges that abound in the service delivery processes.
“The theme of this year event speaks to the future of the country’s public service which will be more agile, tech-savvy, data driven and human centric,” said Oguna.
The Spokesperson noted that the marking of Public Service day was important as it provides a platform for public servants to showcase and reward innovative initiatives, achievements and positive contributions to the social economic development, as well as sustain quality service delivery for economic growth.
He at the same time observed the APSD event also provides an opportunity for public servants to promote values such as professionalism, accountability, responsiveness, ethics and performance in delivery of public service.
“It is also an opportunity to motivate and encourage public servants to come up with new initiatives and innovations and for them to receive feedback on the services rendered,” said the Spokesperson.
The event commenced with tree planting at Ngong Hills in Kajiado County where senior government officials led public servants in a tree planting exercise to encourage members of the public on the importance of environmental conservation.
