People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) in Migori County have benefited from donations that were distributed by the National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK).
Assistant Director for NFDK Mr. Isaac Aliya who oversaw the distribution of income generating activities equipment to people living with disabilities in Nyatike Sub County advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the items they had received.
NFDK gave out farm tools, barber tool kits, leatherwork tool kits, and plough yoke and its accessories to 13 disabled individuals to aid them to earn a decent living.
Aliya urged the beneficiaries to resist the temptation of selling the donated equipment because it would only add to the miseries that they were already facing.
He noted that the equipment was meant to improve the livelihood of the disabled from abject poverty.
The official also called upon the beneficiaries to ensure they take good care of the donated equipment to ensure they served them well.
“I want to politely ask those that have benefited today not to apply again for the same support in order to give a chance to those that did not get it,” stated Aliya.
Aliya added that those that intended to apply for the support from the NFDK should apply for the items based on their background needs and training to ensure that they benefit fully from those donations.
Deputy Commissioner for Nyatike Sub County Mr. Paul Lagat appreciated the NFDK officials for the godly gesture toward supporting people with disabilities.
The administrator said that disability was not inability and called upon the disabled people to work hard instead of relying on handouts for survival.
He noted that the national government and its partners would always strive to help the disabled in order that they live decently.
The NFDK donation kitty aims at aiding disabled beneficiaries with endowments worth Sh60 million across the nation.
