The Kenyan government has revealed its intention to construct a modern terminal at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to boost the country’s economy by increasing transit capacity and expanding trade and investment. Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen made the announcement during the appointment of five newly appointed members of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) board. The construction of the new terminal, which will create job opportunities and make Kenya a leader in the aviation sector, will be facilitated through a Public-Private Partnership model, according to the CS. The move comes after inefficiencies and breakdown in systems resulted from JKIA’s growth to serve eight million passengers every year since its construction in 1978.
