The Manager of Investor Facilitation at Konza Technopolis Agatha Kakui has said that Konza being a national government project is working to produce jobs in different areas of the main clusters in ICT.
While speaking to the media at the Konza site in Machakos County Kakui added that they were working to attract investors and investments to do developments in IT, ICT, Engineering, and light manufacturing.
“We are working to produce jobs in different areas and to attract investors and investments to do development in areas of ICT, Engineering, and IT-enabled services. We are also working with universities and hospitals which are areas that are going to guarantee jobs for Kenyan youth,” said Kakui.
She noted that the investment opportunities in Konza are open to all and they are attracting investors both locally and internationally adding that so far, they have had 30 percent uptake by foreign investors and 70 percent by locals.
She added that they were looking to develop a strong innovation ecosystem that would drive economic progress for the benefit of the people, Kenyan consumers, businesses, and the economy at large.
Kakui said there were several initiatives developed to advance the narrative to develop centers of excellence in Agritech, vaccine production facilities, and how to include the medical world technologically.
“The authorities are developing several initiatives to technologically change the narrative looking at the technological application. We are developing centers of excellence in Agritech, vaccine production facilities and to include the medical world so as to advance in Bio-Technology,” added Kakui.
She further said in order to make Konza City different from other cities that exist, they were working to establish a smart vaccine production facility and looking at all areas of human research to enhance human health.
Kakui added that the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), is a university-based in Konza that was modeled after KAIST in South Korea which would be a graduate-only university admitting students in Masters and PhD only.
“Development has already started and the University will be on research matters admitting only PhD and Masters students drawn both locally and internationally,” pointed out Kakui.
Konza Technopolis previously called Konza Technology City is a large sustainable world-class technology hub planned by the Kenya government.
The Technopolis is also a major economic driver for the nation and home to a vibrant mix of businesses, workers, residents, and urban amenities that is expected to help Kenya achieve middle-income status by 2030.
