Kajiado South Constituency Member of Parliament, Parashina Sakimba has called upon Kenya Wildlife Service officers from Tsavo National Park to cultivate good rapport with the local community from Kajiado South.
This is after KWS officers recently apprehended herds of cattle from Kajiado South which were grazing in the park causing a confrontation with the local folks.
Sakimba also urged the local community, especially the herders to co-exist peacefully with wildlife to avoid human-wildlife conflicts especially after the recent adverse drought spell.
The legislator who was speaking on Sunday during a thanksgiving Sunday service at St. Barnabas ACK Church, Loitoktok called upon KWS to release the confiscated animals as well as the herders who were arrested in the fracas.
Kajiado County Assembly Speaker, Justus Ngusur promised the residents that the county assembly will ensure effective service delivery to the community.
Ngusur promised the county Assembly will hold the county executive accountable and ensure they follow the law to the letter.
Members of the County Assembly from Kajiado South called upon the county leaders to address the prevailing conflict between wildlife and local communities over scarce water resource.
They pointed out that the scarcity of water from the river was exacerbated by some individuals who use it to irrigate their farms at the expense of other users.
The MCAs said those living downstream are left without water and called for urgent mitigative measures to address the matter before it gets out of hand.
