Senator Danson Mungatana has asked Tana River MCAs to work in unison, shunning squabbles that may derail development.
The Senator delivered his inaugural address to the Tana River County Assembly during the afternoon session today.
He reminded the MCAs not to shy away from carrying out their responsibilities in the devolved system of governance. “Our duties are to enact laws, the Governor’s duties are to implement the laws that we will make here,” said Mungatana.
He beseeched the MCAs to speak on behalf of the people by addressing issues affecting their lives like the ravaging drought from upper Tana (Bura constituency) to lower Tana ( Garsen constituency).
“Speak about the problems of the people, we have a severe drought at the moment in our county, our livestock are dying. We are having similar problems on the farms and there is no water in our houses,” he said.
“We are hungry; we must talk and find a way to solve all the problems. All residents of Tana River cannot sit here. You have been given this opportunity to look at our problems,” he added.
He added the Hola Referral hospital is not working as expected and people killed by wild animals are not compensated.
The Senator told the MCAs to ensure funds are used prudently as allocated in the budget.
He said, “Yes, we have said that we should collaborate, but our roles are different. Everyone should do their duties well so that the people can benefit from our leadership, let’s stick together and walk together but everyone should do their job”.
Mungatana vowed to be the voice of Tana River to make sure the county doesn’t lag in development.
“In Tana, we have been left behind in many things, the government says they have built 200 kilometers of tarmac road, if you look at Tana not even one kilometer has increased, you hear that we have built water dams but if you look at Tana there is none,’’ said the senator.
