Maina Kageni, well-known radio presenter and Tembea Tujenge Kenya brand
ambassador, has recently urged Kenyans to support domestic tourism and
explore the beauty of their own country. In a statement made on Friday,
Kageni emphasized that the tourism sector in Kenya heavily relies on
domestic tourists and highlighted the Tembea Tujenge Kenya initiative as a
means to open up new and exciting tourism destinations within the country.
The Tembea Tujenge Kenya initiative, which translates to “explore and build
Kenya,” has thus far visited 27 counties and aims to cover the remaining 20
counties in 2023. According to the CEO of Tembea Tujenge Kenya, Andrew

the initiative will be expanding its reach to the East African region, targeting
countries such as Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
Kageni, who has been a strong advocate for domestic tourism, shared that the
initiative has been successful in achieving 67,000 bed capacity and creating
jobs in the hospitality industry in the past year. He also called upon the
private sector to support the initiative, which has received backing from
several major companies such as Safaricom, Isuzu East Africa, Tourism Fund,
Sarova Hotels, Vivo energy, Presidential Delivery Unit, among others.
The Tembea Tujenge Kenya initiative serves as a valuable tool for promoting
domestic tourism and stimulating economic growth within the various
counties. By encouraging Kenyans to explore their own country, the initiative
