Man, 24, found dead in sugarcane plantation

A 24 year- old man in Sikulu area, Misikhu ward in Webuye West Constituency in Bungoma was on Thursday found hanging from a tree in a sugarcane plantation after disappearing from home for one day.

The man’s grandmother, Everlyne Barasa, told KNA that Samson Barasa disappeared from home on Wednesday after he was caught with a stolen phone suspected to belong to a neighbour.

“My neighbour’s cell phone got lost, he has been asking for it but in vain, only for my grandson to be found with it,” she said.

“The owner of the phone forgave him and cautioned him not to repeat stealing,” she said

The father, Leonard Tundo, condemned the incident calling on well- wishers to help the family raise cash to facilitate the burial of his son.

“I have never quarreled with my son. I don’t know what pushed him to hang himself, it is so unfortunate that he has taken this path to end his own life,” he said.

The body of the deceased was picked by police officers from Webuye police station and taken to Webuye County Referral Hospital morgue as the family starts burial preparations as police launched further investigations into the matter.
