A 25-year-old man at Kapita estate in the outskirts of Homa Bay town was over the weekend killed by a neighbour who accused him of stealing his goat.
Homa-Bay township location Senior Chief Joshua Ochogo identified the deceased as Joshua Olela adding that the culprit, 23, had accused Olela of having stolen the goat from his home at Kamakori village in the same sub-county a few days ago.
“On carrying out investigations, the young man who is a livestock trader discovered that Olela stole the goat and sold it to a butchery operator,” the chief added.
Witnesses said the trader armed himself with a knife and waited for Olela on the way to his house at Kapita estate.
They added that when he saw Olela, he asked him why he had stolen his goat, but Olela denied the accusations, leading to a fight. As they fought the suspect allegedly stabbed Olela with a knife in the stomach.
“Residents tried to rescue him but he had lost a lot of blood and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital,” Ochogo said.
The administrator arrested the suspect and handed him to police officers at Homa Bay Police Station where he is being held.
Ochogo urged residents to avoid taking the law into their hands. “Let residents report to government security agencies when they have any grievances instead of taking the law into their hands,” said Ochogo.
The body was moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.
