Meru County residents have been urged to take advantage of the county government’s ongoing COVID-19 vaccination exercise in all the Sub-counties.
A Public Health Promotion Officer in the County, Joyce Mbiti, said the vaccination program had been put in place to ensure all people aged 15 years and above were fully vaccinated against the deadly virus.
Speaking in Imenti South Sub-county, Wednesday, Mbiti said the County health sector had successfully ensured vaccination centres were established at the lowest community level to avoid excuses of people having to incur transport costs to get to the nearest centre for the services.
She assured the public of quality services, noting all the personnel deployed in all the centres were county government employees with the necessary professional and academic qualifications.
The Health Officer appealed to the public to dismiss claims that COVID-19 was no longer a threat to Meru County population, saying the virus was still within which calls for collective efforts to counter it.
Mbiti said the Health Department leadership had resolved to sensitize the people on the importance and benefits of promoting the culture of disease prevent situations where many people get to health facilities for treatment when their condition was already compromised.
The health promoter said she had not yet heard of any country claiming to have eradicated the deadly COVID-19 virus from the midst of its population, adding the only available option to contain the virus was through getting fully vaccinated and then receiving the booster injection.
Mbiti said the County health sector had been entrusted with the noble task of ensuring residents remained healthy for them to actively participate in development initiatives meant to propel the county’s economic growth and development.
The health promoter further assured the public that the commitment to safeguard public health remained intact regardless of who occupy the county leadership positions after the August 9 General elections.
“We are guided by our professional code of conduct and ethics and not the prevailing political environment at any time of our duty performance,” Mbiti said.
