Mia Moja primary school in Laikipia North Sub County has benefitted from a Sh2.5 million administration block that targets to improve the learning environment and boost tutors’ morale in the institution.
Speaking to KNA after the official launch of the facility, Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere said the government is keen on creating a good learning environment to enable 100 percent transition. The facility is funded by National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
“Learning environment for pupils play a critical role and it is clear after investing in infrastructure here in Mia Moja, the overall mean score has improved,” said the MP.
Korere noted that Laikipia North Sub County lagged behind in education due to persistent drought and retrogressive culture practices which she said could be addressed by promoting education.
“This area experiences perennial drought and parents are not able to fund such infrastructure which should be a concern to us as leaders. It is also good to note that through education, we are able to eliminate tribal conflicts and other retrogressive culture,” said the legislator.
The MP revealed that earlier, the school had dilapidated structures that lowered the teaching morale of tutors at the institution thus recording low grades.
The school head teacher Florence Joseph lauded the government effort on improving the school infrastructures in bid to promote education in the area.
“From 2018, I have seen major transformation from renovation of classrooms, construction of school toilets and now the administration block. As a school, we have benefited with about Sh8 million from NG-CDF,” said Ms Joseph, adding it had cost Sh3.7 million to refurbish classrooms.
