Elgeyo Marakwet County government has officially commissioned one of its flagship projects at Kapcherop health Centre in Marakwet West.
Kapcherop Health facility also serves the neighbouring counties of Trans Nzoia and West Pokot.
The infrastructure which has a 36 bed capacity ward designated for both male and female, also has a unit designated for the pediatric ward.
The health centre has also been equipped with a new laboratory with all equipment and a full hemogram machine which is fully operational and a stand-by generator serving the entire facility.
Area Governor Alex Tolgos who graced the opening ceremony laid a foundation stone for a Sh 84 million storey medical complex in the same facility.
The governor noted that the complex would constitute a modern Outpatient department (OPD), Accident and Emergency unit, theatre, Radiology, Eye unit, Laboratory services, Dental unit and a doctor’s Plaza.
“Once completed, Kapcherop health centre will be upgraded to a sub county hospital courtesy of the massive infrastructural development,” said Tolgos.
Tolgos added he was elated that he commissioned the project before exiting office saying it was one of his legacy projects.
“I have strived to ensure that all development projects undertaken by my administration are completed. Having left a few days before I hand over office to the next Governor, I am happy that we have been able to open this facility,” said the Governor.
