Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has signed a memorandum of understanding between the county administration and Dorcas Rigathi Foundation, for the establishment of a health village at Ngorano Health Centre in Mathira constituency, Nyeri County.
Speaking at the function, Kahiga said the MoU will provide a framework of collaborative initiatives between Dorcas Rigathi Foundation and the devolved unit in creating mutually beneficial development programs, aimed at promoting socio-economic growth of the region.
He said it will enhance better utilization of resources in place, to address various needs in the community, adding that once Ngorano Health Centre VTC and Youth Polytechnic are up scaled, they will host a rehabilitation Centre, a community hospital, a Vocational facility and a sports activities centre. Further, the centre will be involved in tree-planting initiatives.
He added that through partnership with NACADA, the County government has established Ihururu Rehabilitation Centre as one of the measures to fight alcohol and substance abuse in Nyeri County.
The centre, he said, is also boosting the services being offered at Karia Rehabilitation Centre.
The governor also added that his administration is working towards curbing social vices that have rendered local youth hopeless.
Kahiga said the proposed Rehabilitation centre at Ngorano, will provide a safe and welcoming environment for individuals struggling with addiction, mental health and other related issues.
