Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has assented into law the Nyeri County Appropriation Bill, 2022 paving way for various departments to get funds.
While assenting the bill into law in his office, Mutahi lauded the committees involved in its preparation for doing a commendable job and further hailed Nyeri county Assembly for passing very many bills during the last five years.
He said Nyeri County Appropriation Bill, 2022 has been drafted through close collaboration between the Executive and the County Assembly. Nyeri county budget for Financial Year 2022/ 2023 is Sh7.58 Billion. The total recurrent budget is Sh5.89 billion while the development budget is Sh2.33 billion.
He noted that the Department of Health has received the lion’s share of Sh2.25 Billion, Agriculture Sh244.4 million and Finance Sh837.1 Million. The County Assembly’s allocation is Sh762.6 million.
At the same time the governor called on the National Treasury to release the funds on time to ensure smooth running of operations in the counties.
He lamented that even as the current Financial Year ends, Nyeri County was yet to receive Sh1.3 Billion owed by the exchequer which has almost paralyzed services.
Nyeri County Assembly Speaker John Kaguchia who was also present lauded the Executive for their continued support throughout the process of bill formulation.
Kaguchia called on the National Government to increase funds to all the 47 counties and also release the same on time in order to speed up development nationwide.
