Police in Homa Bay investigate death of a young man

Police in Homa Bay have begun investigations into the death of a young man whose body was discovered at his house in Marina estate within the town on Friday morning.

The deceased, identified as Josephat Kaberia, was found in their house by one of the neighbours at around 9am alongside his roommate Martin Njuguna, who was unconscious.

According to their landlord Erick Odhiambo, the two, who are miraa traders in town, came home around 8 pm last night in a drunken state as they usually do at the end of every business day.

Odhiambo said that he was woken up by his wife who as usual had gone to call one of the men to assist in fetching water.

He said that upon inspection of the two, he discovered that Kaberia was dead while his roommate Njunguna appeared to be unconscious at the time.

“The young men got home a bit early last night and we did not hear any unusual noises throughout the night only to wake up to the news of Kaberia’s death,” stated Odhiambo.

According to Homa Bay town senior chief Joshua Ochogo, the deceased was discovered in a sitting position with his head resting on one of the walls while his roommate was asleep on their blood-stained mattress close to him.

He however explained that the cause of death was still unclear even though the deceased had bruises all over his body and face with blood oozing from both his nose and mouth.

“We are yet to determine the cause of death as investigations have only begun. However, the deceased appeared to have been in a physical altercation prior to his death,” stated Ochogo.

The administrator implored the residents to volunteer any relevant information pertaining to the matter adding that his office would work closely with security officers to ensure a smooth investigation.

Njuguna is currently in police custody to assist in investigations while the body of the deceased was moved to Homa Bay County referral Hospital morgue awaiting post mortem.
