Public recreational park opened in Kajiado

Kajiado governor Joseph Ole Lenku has opened a public recreational park in Ngong town at the former site of the relocated Ngong dump site.

Governor Lenku has said the recreational park would improve lives of Kajiado residents by providing a clean environment for leisure and eliminating the health and environmental risk created by the old dumpsite.

“We have begun planting trees at this new recreational park. We want this recreational park to be a place where residents can sit and relax. The old dumpsite was a health risk to residents living in this area which is at the heart of our Municipality but now residents can enjoy a clean environment,” said Lenku.

Lenku has said the county government would transform the public recreational park into a modern park in the second phase of the beautification process.

He called on Kajiado residents to help in the environmental conservation of the new recreational park so that they could enjoy its benefits.

Kajiado County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads and Public Works Alex Kilouwa has lauded the county government’s initiative for the transformation of the former Ngong dumpsite into a public recreational park.

“When this area was a dumpsite, it was covered in garbage and there were many complaints from residents about the bad smell from the dumpsite. Now the dumpsite has been relocated and this site has been transformed into a public recreational park,” said Kilouwa.

The recreational park is expected to provide employment to at least twenty youth who would help in the provision of security and beautification.
