Residents retrieve body from River Tana

Residents of Muhunduwalo village have discovered a body in river Tana, that was stuck in an old mango tree trunk that had fallen into the river.

Maroni Sub-Location assistant chief Beatrice Galana said she received a phone call from a village elder informing her of the discovery of a body in the river Monday mid-morning.

The Assistant Chief rushed to the scene and confirmed it was part of a human body consisting of a head, up to the chest with hands intact and other parts missing. She reported the incident at Wenje police station.

Police together with members of the public retrieved the body and transported it to the Hola referral hospital mortuary.

Tana River Sub-County Police Commander Patrick Kafulo confirmed the incident saying the body was later transferred to Malindi mortuary after they were informed the Hola Referral Hospital morgue is not operational.

The Sub-County police boss revealed that the body is in bad condition and beyond recognition.

He urged residents whose relatives may have disappeared or whose whereabouts are unknown, to visit Wenje Police station to get more information from the OCS and to aid in the investigation to unravel the exact cause of death.
