Rioma Sub Location Assistant Chief Found Dead

An assistant chief of Rioma Sub location in Marani Sub County, Evans Obegi, was this morning found dead a few metres away from his office.

Confirming the incident, Marani Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Chege Maina stated that the deceased had no physical injuries saying the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers had taken over the case to find out the actual cause of death.

“We were told about his movements last night. We have not noticed any suspicious events during that time, and therefore we cannot confidently tell what prompted his death,” added Chege.

He urged residents to remain calm and avoid speculations on the cause, saying they should wait for police officers to complete their investigations and give a correct report.

Marani Sub County Police Commander Benjolive Muluve cautioned members of the public against going close to crime scenes whenever such incidents occur, to allow security apparatus to do their work.

“Do not go closer to a crime scene and touch the body. Stay 10 metres away so that the police can come and start their work without any interference that could slow the investigation,” affirmed Muluve.

Muluve added that it becomes hard for the DCI officers to conduct the investigation when people tamper with evidence at the crime scenes, noting that even a hair strand is an important piece of evidence.

He said that they were saddened by the demise of the assistant chief, terming him as a hardworking person who helped the police when Rioma police station was reshuffled last year.

The body was moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) mortuary.
