A number of roads in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) have been as the Supreme Court is set to give a verdict on the presidential election petition.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said the roads will be closed after they receive a directive from the Supreme Court.
The directive is expected to be issued two hours before the time that the court will convene to give its ruling on the presidential petition.
The road closure will affect Ngong road, Cathedral road/ Milimani Ngong road and Cathedral/ Haile Selassie.
Ngong road will be closed at the junction of Ngong road first Avenue (opposite NHIF). No motorists will be allowed to access CBD through Kenyatta Avenue via Cathedral road but instead they are advised to use Haile Selassie Avenue.
Cathedral road/ Milimani Ngong road which accesses Milimani Law Court will be closed at Kenyatta Avenue / Valley road junction (NSSF). Only vehicles heading to the court will be allowed. All other motorists are advised to use Valley road.
“Cathedral road/ Haile Selassie Avenue junction will be closed and motorists are advised to use alternative route of Haile Selassie/ Ngong road,” the statement read.
Apart from the road closure NPS has assured Kenyans that security has been beefed up across the country, with critical infrastructure in place.
