Rutto’s Chama Cha Mashinani rally disrupted in Bomet

Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party led by its party leader former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto condemned the violence that was witnessed during their campaign rally presided by its leader on Monday, July 4, 2022, in Chebunyo market, Chepalungu Sub-county.

In a press statement released to the media, the party accused their competitor calling them to shun from engaging in political violence but rather engage in ideologies.

“We wish to condemn in the strongest terms possible yesterday’s incident in which hired youths disrupted CCM campaign rally that was presided by Bomet First Governor H.E Isaac Ruto on Monday, July, 4 ,2022 in Chebunyo market, Chepalungu Sub-county,” read part of the statement.

“It is sad to note that a senior member of our competitor’s side is sponsoring violence by hiring youths to disrupt political rallies being organized by his opponents,” it said.

Reports indicate that during the incident, several people sustained injuries after they were pelted with stones and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Several vehicles had their windscreens smashed with stones and other crude weapons hurled by the rowdy youths who attended the rally.

CCM has pointed fingers at its competitors accusing them of instigating and planning violence in political rallies organized by them.

“We want to warn our competitors and their team to stop this barbaric act and of looking for sympathy and political mileage through the instigation of violence then blame it on opponents for selfish political gains,” the statement further reads.

The Monday incident was reported to police in Chepalungu police station.
