Residents of Kosele town were on Wednesday left in shock and disbelief after the body of a primary school boy was found hanging from a tree.
The deceased was identified as Elijah Okoth Ochieng, a former 15 year- old pupil at Oasis primary school located in Kosele town.
The North Kamagak location chief Benson Midigo said the class 7 pupil had left home in Saye village Tuesday morning for school, but according to his father Ayub Ochieng he never returned home.
The chief said a passerby Pamela Akinyi stumbled on the dangling body Wednesday morning and alerted other members of public, who thronged the scene, not so far from the school, where the boy used to learn.
The chief said the boy took away his life while dressed in blue school shorts and a civilian T-shirt.
The police moved the body to Rachuonyo Level 4 hospital mortuary in Oyugis town for preservation and postmortem examination.
“Police have commenced investigations to ascertain what happened,” said Midigo.
The incident comes barely two days after Education Cabinet secretary Prof. George Magoha asked churches to pray for the youth and also guide them to avoid cases of suicides, which had become rampant among young people.
The CS was speaking Monday during the burial ceremony of the late Susan Mbeda Buop, mother to Education Attaché to New York, Andrew Buop in Kojwach Rachuonyo East sub county, Homa Bay county.
