Preparations for swearing in of the new Trans Nzoia governor-elect are underway, according to the Assumption of Office of the Governor Committee.
Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Mr. Samson Ojwang, who is the committee chairperson, made the disclosure during a briefing with Kenya News Agency (KNA) on Friday.
According to Ojwang, the swearing in event will be conducted on 25th August, 2022 at the Kitale ASK grounds between 10am and 2pm.
“The stage is almost set for the swearing in and handing over ceremony for the Governor-elect,” stated Ojwang as he appealed to area residents to remain calm.
High Court Judge Justice Joseph Karanja will preside over the swearing in ceremony assisted by Chief Magistrate Mr. Julius Ng’arng’ar.
The scheduled ceremony shall witness outgoing Governor Patrick Khaemba accompanied by his Deputy (DG) Mr. Stanley Tarus hand over instruments of office to the incoming governor Mr. George Natembeya and his DG Mrs. Philemona Binea Kapkori.
Natembeya, the former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner won the gubernatorial seat with a landslide in the just concluded General Election.
Natembeya who ran on a Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya (DAP-K) ticket garnered 158,919 votes.
His closest competitor Ford- Kenya’s Chris Wamalwa came second with 79,020 votes.
Natembeya will be the second governor of Trans Nzoia County following Khaemba’s completion of his two terms tenure.
