Teenager kills brother over rice meal.

A tragedy befell a family in Ikorongo village, Miruka location, Nyamira County after a 15-year old teenager killed his brother after they differed over taking turns in cooking lunch.

Nyamira South Sub County Police Commander (SCPC) Moses Kirong’ confirmed the incident saying Miruka location assistant chief, Robert Maugo reported the matter following the unfolding tragic turn of event.

He said preliminary reports into the incident that the two brothers picked a fight over taking turns in cooking the rice meal that their grandmother had left them to prepare for lunch while she was away.

Assistant chief Maugo reportedly informed the police that the deceased refused to take orders from his senior brother when his turn for lunch meal chores came sparking the tragic fight that led to the death of the 13-year-old minor.

“When it was the turn of the deceased boy to check the cooking rice in the kitchen, he was reluctant to do so, but when his older brother insisted he remained adamant and continued to playing with his 7-year-old younger brother.” Narrated Assistant Chief Maugo.

Kirong’ said according to their younger brother who witnessed the unfolding tragedy old sibling who witnessed the fight between two siblings picked an argument that turned physical before the deceased was fatally punched on the chest during the confrontation.

He said the deceased lost consciousness after he was hit on the rib cage with a fist as they wrestled to the ground during the brawl before the two brothers realized that he was motionless and non-responsive.

The police boss said according to the youngest sibling, their older brother desperately tried to revive the deceased in vain even after pouring cold water on his body but it was too late to bring him back.

“Their grandmother, Wilkister Kerubo, who is also their guardian was away from home while their mother was away in Nairobi working to fend for her boys.” Kirong’ said

He said the remains of the 13-year minor was later taken to Nyamira referral hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy while police hunt for the eldest boy who reportedly fled from the homestead after realizing his efforts to resuscitate his brother were futile.
