Local administrators have been directed to ensure all 2021 standard eight candidates in Trans Nzoia County have joined secondary schools.
Trans Nzoia County Commissioner (CC) Mr. Samson Ojwang issued the directive at a media brief in Kitale town.
CC Ojwang disclosed that Department of Education in collaboration with his office will conduct a thorough village to village search aimed at identifying bonafide Form one students that were still at home.
“The operation, which will be spearheaded by education officers and local administrators, is scheduled to take effect two weeks,” Ojwang told journalists.
He appealed to Principals of schools in the region to adhere to the directive by Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) advising them against sending home learners for fees.
“For our county to achieve 100 percent transition this year, we appeal to secondary school heads to refrain from turning back Form One students that have reported without or with less fees,” urged Ojwang.
The county boss urged parents whose children will be returned home to report the same to area assistant chiefs and chiefs, “because we cannot tolerate government officers that defy important directives without proper reasons,” he added.
The official further encouraged charitable organizations and well-wishers in the region to come to the aid of students from humble backgrounds.
“The government is keen at ensuring all children access basic education regardless of their family and economic backgrounds,” remarked Ojwang.
According to the CC, the county was at about 90 per cent Form One enrollment as per data by the Department of Education.
