Universities School Deans Hold A walk in Embu to Mark World Teachers’ Day

Deans of Schools of various universities across the country today gathered in Embu to hold a walk in marking the World Teachers’ Day fete.

With this year’s theme being ‘the transformation of education begins with teachers,’ Dr. Peter Rugana a lecturer at University of Embu said that teachers play an integral role in the transformation of education in Kenya.

Speaking at Kangaru School where the walk was launched, Rugana said that Kenya is able to experience transformation in education due to the efforts that teachers are giving it.

He said that despite a few cases of poor performance in some schools across the country frustrating the teachers, the teachers have always put their best energy forward which has yielded fruits not only in Embu county but in the entire country.

Rugana added that the Government has always appreciated teachers’ work in Kenya, adding that poor performance in schools has always demoralized teachers but urged teachers to not give up when their students perform poorly but encourage them to do better.

“Surprisingly enough there is a lot of appreciation of teachers’ work, while there are a few instances that make a lot of news the bulk of teachers’ work is much appreciated and especially when teachers work very hard and they see results, they feel much appreciated and the students feel good about it,” he said.

Obadiah Kiringa a Geography and Christian Religious Education (CRE) teacher at Kangaru School Embu said that he feels the Government appreciates the teachers because it remunerates teachers well.

Kiringa said that he appreciated being a teacher because he has molded many students who are excelling well both locally and internationally. He challenged his fellow teachers countrywide to always be proud of their work and put their best foot forward.

While appreciating the teachers’ efforts at Kangaru School, Michael Njeru a form three student at Kangaru School said that all the transformations in his education journey is all attributed to teachers who have taught him in both Primary school and now at Kangaru School.
