Wanga cleared to contest Homa Bay gubanetorial seat

Homa-Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga was today cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries commission to run for the county gubernatorial seat.

Wanga was cleared alongside her running mate Oyugi Magwanga in a contest that is pitting them against former Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero.

Speaking after being cleared, Wanga said they are going to embark on popularising the “six-piece” pattern of voting.

She said they will work to ensure all ODM candidates in Homa Bay County are elected in the August 9 polls.

Wanga said that they were going to strengthen ODM party at the grassroots by wading off the party’s opponents and ensuring residents vote in ODM candidates only.

“My clearance has been done very efficiently. We are going to undertake campaigns like never before to ensure I win the seat alongside my fellow ODM candidates,” Wanga said.

The woman Rep told aspiring candidates in the county campaign peacefully. She claimed that some politicians were planning to hire goons from outside the county to disrupt peace during campaigns.

“I promise to undertake peaceful campaigns. But it is unfortunate that some politicians are planning to hire goons from outside. We want peaceful campaigns in this county,” Wanga said.

She called on security officials to accord female candidates tight security in the county.

“I and fellow female candidates in this county should be given adequate security during the campaign period,” Wanga added.

Magwanga called on the IEBC to undertake credible elections.

“It is through credible elections that Homa Bay residents can get leaders who can transform their lives,” Magwanga said.

Wanga outlined her development priorities which she said includes improvement of health sector, agriculture and fisheries, providing clean water, education, roads and women empowerment among others.

“Health is key because it is an enabler for faster development projects. We must equip our health facilities and provide health insurance cover to vulnerable households.” Wanga added.

The candidates were accompanied by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’, legislators Martin Owino (Ndhiwa), Ong’ondo Were (Kasipul), and Adipo Okuome (Karachuonyo) who are defending their seats on ODM tickets.

Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero was cleared by the electoral body on Sunday.
