Women leaders laud Dr. Nakhumicha’s appointment

The appointment of Dr. Susan Wafula Nakhumicha as the Cabinet Secretary for Health has been received with great acceptance by residents of Trans Nzoia, who observed that they have been honoured by the government.

In Kitale, a section of the residents exuded confidence in Dr. Nakhumicha pointing out that she was up to the task, even as they challenged her to help raise health standards in the country.

Tom Mamati, a trustee of the Ford Kenya party in Trans Nzoia said he was glad that President Ruto had honoured the party by picking one their members to head one of the most sensitive dockets in the country.

He was more categorical that the head of state had done a commendable thing to recognize the people of Western region in his appointments noting that he had honoured the 30 percent pledge he made during the campaigns.

“Dr. Nakhumicha should now begin with ensuring that the country is well prepared to prevent spread of Ebola virus from the neighbouring Uganda, where an outbreak was reported last week,” he called out.

Mamati also challenged the CS nominee, if approved by parliament to immediately crack whip on corrupt health workers who have crippled the sector and ensure that the Universal Health Coverage program is well implemented.

He further hailed President Ruto for picking eight women to fill Cabinet positions out of the possible 22 slots, which he noted was a big win for womenfolk countrywide.
