The Government’s efforts to cushion vulnerable households against extreme poverty through the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer programme, has seen 544 families in Naivasha benefit from Sh.13.2 million kitty in the last one year.
This is after the government released the last tranche of Sh.4, 432,000 for payment to the beneficiaries enrolled in the programme and captured in the Consolidated Cash Transfer Management Information System.
According to the Sub-County Children’s Officer, John Chege, each beneficiary will receive Sh. 8,000 to cover the March – June 2022 payment cycle, targeting the orphans and vulnerable children, elderly and Persons with Severe Disabilities.
Chege hailed the initiative for uplifting the lives of those in dire need, noting that the funds have helped beneficiaries get foodstuffs, medical attention and register for birth certificates of children among other needs.
Chege said the beneficiaries have started receiving their funds through the six known contracted banks including National Bank, KCB, Equity, Kenya Women’s Finance Trust, Post Bank and Cooperative Bank.
He said his office has reached out to the beneficiaries about the funds disbursements through their local administrators, radio and television, WhatsApp groups and individual phone messages.
Chege, however, appealed for an increase in amount disbursed, noting that the number of persons seeking to be included in the programme has increased due to the Covid-19 pandemic aftershocks and due to increased natural attritions.
The Inua Jamii programme launched in 2015 by the government has seen billions of shillings channeled to the under-privileged citizens across the County to cushion them against extreme poverty.
Chege at the same time said the government has in the last Financial Year disbursed Sh. 1.3 million under the Presidential Secondary School Bursary programme for the most deserving children.
The officer said 61 school children are currently benefiting from the funds in Naivasha Constituency with each child getting between Sh. 15,000 to Sh. 30,000 per year.
