Adaptation Consortium (ADA) in conjunction with the County government of Makueni will carry out functionality and governance studies in 13 public investments to help get lessons learnt in implementing the projects for the community.
Speaking in a meeting held at a Wote hotel, ADA Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Kennedy Ododa said that the study will also establish whether the projects have been sustained or stalled.
Consequently, Ododa noted that they will train seven enumerators to enable them understand the tools they are going to use during the enumeration period that will take three days starting today.
“The information gathered will be used in future in other counties where similar projects are being implemented where community participatory is key,” said Ododa in the meeting that comprised of technical officers from the county and chairpersons from wards where the projects are being implemented.
“The enumerators will be trained for one day and will be released to the field on Thursday to Saturday to do the survey,” added the monitoring and evaluation officer.
Some of the projects include Kwa Kilu, Kwa Ndambuki, Ngai Ndethya Mega, Kwa Luli, Kya Aka Ngutioni and Kwa Lai sand dams.
Other projects are Kwa Mutuku and Kwa Atuma earth dams, Kaseve Pipeline and Ngamba Water distributions and Masue Rock Catchment and Kwa Kyole water weir.
He observed that ADA supports county governments to mainstream climate change into development and planning through the County Climate Change Fund (CCCF) mechanism.
He disclosed that communities are in charge of their development and allowed to prioritize public good investments that build resilience to climate change. “The mechanism is geared towards addressing climate change adaptation priorities, building community resilience and fostering sustainable economic growth,” he added.
Speaking at the same event, the Environment and Climate Change Chief Officer (CO) Japheth Kiminza said that through this the community has taken charge of projects and owned them.
Kiminza further said that as a government, they have since been able to expand some of the water pipelines to many people who are now getting water with ease hence avoiding long distances to fetch the commodity.
“We have seen many projects being owned by the community since they are in charge of prioritizing what is to be done unlike before where government officials used to determine what is to be done at the community level,” he posed.
Further he assured ADA that the county government of Makueni will support them to ensure the people benefitted from the projects.
