Kanu national chairman cum Baringo Senator Gideon Moi was yesterday cleared by IEBC to vie for the county’s senate seat in the August general elections.
Senator Moi was accompanied by his wife Zahra when he presented his nomination documents before IEBC officials led by County Returning Officer John Mwangi at Kabarnet Rehabilitation and Vocational Training Centre.
While addressing Kabarnet residents largely in his Kalenjin dialect after making several stop overs in streets of the town urged the electorates to fully back him for the senatorial seat which he is defending for the third time.
He enumerated several achievements including road projects in the county worth Sh 9 billion which he oversaw for the last one year.
“I still have a lot of projects to be completed for my people and given another opportunity, I promise that we shall accomplish many things together,” he said.
He also stated that top on his agenda was to link thousands of unemployed youth to government jobs in order for them to be self-reliant and be dependable people in their families.
“We want our youth to get available opportunities in the government like in the military, police, prison service and many others and by doing that we would have addressed the unemployment challenge in our county,” said Moi.
The KANU supremo vowed to make more inroads in the coming weeks to sell his development agenda to residents before August 9 polls.
Senator Moi will be defending the seat with his fierce competitor from UDA party William Cheptumo who is the incumbent third term MP for Baringo North who is yet to be cleared for the race.
