Two people died in a road accident at Nyang’iela trading center on Rodi Kopany-Oyugis road in Rachuonyo South Sub-county.
A student of Kuoyo Mixed Secondary School and another pillion passenger succumbed to injuries when the motorbike they were travelling on collided head-on with another which was coming from the opposite direction.
It is reported that their motorbike which was coming from Oyugis Town collided with a motorbike that was traveling from the direction of Nyang’iela.
Witnesses suspected that the accident might have occurred as a result of darkness which caused the two motorbikes to collide with each other.
“I suspect darkness might have contributed to this incident. I think confusion occurred when the riders failed to see each other well to avoid the collision,” said Otieno Okeyo.
Rachuonyo South Sub-County Police Commander Lilies Wachira confirmed that the two died on the spot while the drivers survived and were rushed to Rachuonyo South Sub-County hospital for treatment, while the motorbikes were taken to Oyugis Police station.
Wachira urged the area residents to observe traffic rules to avoid loss of lives. “The two people, including a student, died on the spot. I urge all road users to observe traffic rules to avoid loss of lives,” She said.
The bodies were moved to Rachuonyo South Sub-County morgue.
