Interdenominational groups unite for peace

Religious leaders from different faiths today launched an interdenominational peace initiative with the aim of spreading peace ahead of the general election.

The Lavington United Church which organised the interdenominational peace initiative is planning to hold a music concert dubbed ‘United for Peace’ on June 25, 2022 at Ngong Racecourse.

The inter-religious team is expected to launch a 40 days programme of dialogue which will be highlighted by the National Cohesion and Integrity Commission (NCIC).

Speaking at All Saints Cathedral on Tuesday, Reverend Naftali Gitonga appealed to all inter-religious teams to collaborate and advocate for accountability, transparency and inclusivity in the governance processes at both national and county level.

“It is thoughtful for inter-religious leaders to come up with a peace campaign that will include the youth while using music and spoken word to preach peace,” said Gitonga.

He added that top Kenyan artists performing at Ngong Racecourse shall also be part of the team advocating for peace through music and dialogue before, during and after the election.

Gitonga noted that there would be a National Prayer day on August 7, 2022 that would be observed by all citizens in Kenya and abroad.

National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), Nairobi Region Manager Mr. Watson Apuilla said that NCCK strives to unite and transform lives through changing the mindset of all Kenyans in a way to relate and embrace each other especially during this political season.

“All leaders have a duty of ensuring that every Kenyan appreciates the need for a peaceful election and refuses to be manipulated by political leaders,” said Apuilla.

In his remarks, Hindu Council Representative Mr. Solanki Kalpesh advised Kenyans to be tolerant in different political views.

“All leaders should preach to the community the need to have peace and respect one another regardless of our colour, faith and tribe,” said Kalpesh.
