Armed cattle thieves attacked herders at Camp Samaki grazing area in Garbatula Sub County and killed a 70-year-old herdsman using an axe on Thursday.
Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding confirmed that the herder was alone at the time of attack and unknown number bandits hit him with an axe leaving him for death.

Mr Omoding said that security officers from Garbatulla were dispatched to track down the raiders and ensure the stolen animals are recovered.
He said that there are plans to establish an Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) camp at Garfasa in order to have a security buffer along Modogashe, Kambi Samaki and Garbatula areas which are prone to cattle rustling.
The administrator further added that 90 more National Police Reservists (NPR) would be recruited in the area to boost security in villages along the border with Garissa, Marsabit and Samburu.
He said that the three Sub Counties would each get 30 NPRs who will be working closely with the police officers under supervision of Officer Commanding Garbatulla Station.
The CC assured wananchi that the security officers will not surrender from pursuing the bandits and the stolen animals until there are arrests of the suspects and the animals recovered.
