Administrators in Murang’a County have been directed to conduct a follow up exercise to ensure all children who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam in March this year have joined secondary schools.
Murang’a County Commissioner (CC), Karuku Ngumo directed the administrators to ensure a 100 percent transition for all KCPE candidates in the county.
Speaking during the inauguration of new assistant chief for Kiambogo sub-location in Mathioya sub county, the CC said chiefs and assistant chiefs would be required to visit all primary schools in their locations and follow up on where all the children are.
“There was a total of 26,789 KCPE candidates in Murang’a County; 13,553 boys and 13,236 girls,” he said. “I shall give the chiefs a form to fill in details such as the name of the child and where the child is currently,” he added.
The CC said the grassroots administrators are also required to contact parents of any child who has not reported to form one and warned that legal action would be taken against those who have failed to take their children to school. “Where there are genuine challenges in raising the required school fees, let my office know so that we can figure out a way to help the children,” he promised.
On his part the new Kiambogo assistant chief, Johnson Maina, vowed to serve the residents without discrimination as well as work with other administrators for residents’ wellbeing.
His predecessor, John Maina, was promoted to Assistant County Commissioner and is now stationed in Kitui County.
