New Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has pledged to transform the economic and social sphere of the county.
In his speech he said he will fulfill their manifesto as he reiterated their plan to inject fresh blood in performance, accountability and service delivery to residents of Uasin Gishu.
He promised to revamp the agricultural sector, health, education, youth and social affairs, trade and infrastructural development.
Uasin Gishu Woman Representative-elect Gladys Shoilei, and MP-elect Oscar Sudi said they will join the governor in the transformation development train and promised they will guarantee residents’ public participation in development projects.
“My administration will be all inclusive. Being a cosmopolitan region, I will promote peaceful co-existence and bring all communities on board,” said Chelilim.
“Agriculture is the key driver of our country’s economy and with our county being famous for agriculture, we need to re-establish agriculture through market research, subsidy farm inputs, mechanization and value addition. The county department of agriculture will be equipped with adequate resources to provide services to farmers on modern farming to enhance their productivity,” he said.
He said farmers will be provided with mobile artificial insemination (AI) to improve their breeding in short term and establish an AI centre for sustainability.
We will support farmers’ cooperatives and facilitate their agricultural activities to include fish farming, bee keeping, beef and poultry farming.
“I intend to empower the residents especially the youth, to engage in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through open markets and Agro-processing ventures to enhance trade on agricultural products, “said Bii.
Bii said; “My administration will allocate sustainable resources for hiring and training qualified medical practitioners, we will modernize, digitize and equip our hospitals and sub-county health centres with essential infrastructure and medicine.”
Bii has pledged to upgrade the Uasin Gishu county hospital to include palliative care, cancer diagnosis management, and dialysis unit.
“In the spirit of universal health care, we will partner with the National government, donors and all stakeholders in the health sector to invest in health. We will partner with medical training institutions, private and faith-based hospitals for continued medical checkups for early diagnosis, “he added.
He said his administration will also partner with NHIF and use the existing structures within the county to sensitize the residents to take health insurance and facilitate their enrollment into subsidy programs for the aged and people living with disability.
On education, Bii said his administration focus will be on construction of several Early Childhood Development (ECDE) centres and training of adequate teachers, as well as giving bursaries for needy students.
He expressed optimism that Uasin Gishu is endowed with diverse opportunities and he promised to transform the county and put it on a positive economic growth and prosperity and deliver on the developmental agenda.
