California FC register win to top Zone B

California FC registered a 2-0 victory against Western Kings to put them in pool position in Zone B of the Busia County League whose second leg matches kicked off at the weekend.

Levy Swart and Merrick Ngweno scored a goal each to enable the Bunyala Sub County based club to dislodge first leg leaders, Young Muslims from Samia which had no game this weekend. California led with 34 points from 15 games, having won 10 matches, drawn 4 and lost 1.

Muungano FC from Matayos South Ward which was third on the log at the end of the first leg jumped to second place with 32 points after beating Abananda FC 5-0. They are equal on points with Young Muslims but have a superior goal difference.

Abananda and Western Kings’ defeat saw them retain last positions with 5 and 4 points respectively. FKF Busia Branch chairman, Hillary Musundi has given teams up to June 13th, 2022 to have completed their midseason transfer window.

In other Zone B matches, visiting Mabale United beat Nambale United 2-0 at Nambale AC. Namwitsula made good use of homeground advantage to outshine Young Tigers 2-1, with home team Spiders beating Labour 2-0.

Butula Eagles and visiting Nasewa drew 2-2 at Butula Polytechnic. Nasewa stunned the Eagles with a 40th minute goal through Nelson Ekesa to see his team take a 1-0 lead at the break.

Emmanuel Otieno equalized in the 65th minute from a spotkick awarded by Division One Referee, Daniel Pierre following an infringement. Ferdinand Odhiambo raised the hopes of home fans with a second goal in the 75th minute before Edgar Bahati ensured a share of the spoils two minutes later with a sublime goal.

In Zone A, early pacesetters Obucuun FC opened up a five-point lead after trouncing Lupida 4-0 at Among’ura Primary School playground with Paul Orono scoring a brace and Isaac Etyang and Didmus Ekoju accounting for a goal each.

They have now accumulated 27 points from 12 matches, having won 8 games, drawn 3 and lost one to give them a good chance of topping the Zone if they continue with their impressive performance.

Asinge dropped two crucial points after settling for a 1-1 draw away to Kiriko at Kiriko Primary School. Mungatsi also squandered a golden opportunity of narrowing the lead when they managed a goalless draw away to Chakol FC in the match officiated by Leonard Iputo.
